Now I Know What's Wrong - Cell Phone Mount For Car Review

By Christian Mitchell

And it is very adjustable. I can view the phone in the landscape or portrait mode.

I'd give it more stars if the "clip" construction was better quality. I purchased this mount for my iPhone before a trip and was very pleased with it.

It works great with Otterbox defender on iPhone 4 - clever design and easy lock and release mechanism that has plenty of flexibility. Went out on a limb with this purchase but very pleased with this mount that will keep me safer and provides a great place for my phone. This unit is completely adjustable and functions well. It is compatible with the Droid Incredible.

The vent clips are poorly designed, and have a hard time holding onto the vents. Though they have several teeth implying you can set them deeper in for better grip, only one set of all those teeth is actually aligned to grab the vent properly.

If you want a mount for any smartphone, this is the product for you. I love this product and I use the vent mount on it.

I know there is a HTC Evo dock designed for the HTC Evo but there are two problems with it, one it only works for the Evo itself and no other phones and two it will not work if your Evo has a case on it. I purchased this one, now I can leave my Otterbox defender case on and it will still fit in the mount, plus if someone else happens to be driving my car they can use the mount for their phone as well. I'd recommend it to anyone that wants to have their phone used as a GPS in the car (mine is a Droid X, it works perfectly!) I purchased this for the vent mount and it gets the job done. The clips that affix it to the vent could be designed a little better and I am going to try the suggestion of plastic tubing on the end of the clips to give it more grab.

This was fairly obvious out-of-the-box on how to assemble it and mount it to the air vents, which is a plus; simple design is always a good thing. It took me 5 minutes to put it together and mount it. A week later, the new suction cup arrived in the mail, and it is much better. Once it's attached and locked, you can pull on it and it won't budge (within reason!) Clearly I can reach out and turn the phone from portrait to landscape without fear of the suction cup falling off. I wanted to get a car dock for my smartphone without having to take the case off. This car dock is well made, and comes with a car vent attachment as well. Promptly returned as it was truly unusable, I have this mounted directly onto my dashboard with the suction cup. It stays put and does exactly what it is supposed to do.

I use an HTC Evo 4G - it holds it snug! The device is plastic and lightweight. If you have this, more power to you. If you don't, and you just want to use the phone without adding Bluetooth to your car, it's not going to work for you. The vent clips work great, I just push them into the grille or yank them out without worrying about it falling out. It is less conspicuous than a suction cup mount but does the same job.
