Benefit from the Free Cell Phone Program

By Henry Armors

There are many needy families which come under the poverty line and have a low family income. The US government provides free cell phones for these low-income groups under a government plan which is implemented by partnering with TracFone Wireless and SafeLInk Wireless. This program is done on such a vast scale that about 1,000,000 families from the lower income group stand to benefit from the government program.

The customer, if found eligible, gets a free cell phone and he is also provided 250 minutes of free talk time. For any other additional requirements, they can pay money and get the same. It is basically provided for a period of one year and reduces the burden of phone bills. This has come as a great boon for many families as they have been adversely affected due to the financial downturn.

The eligibility for receiving these free cell phones is that the person should be one who is receiving food stamps or enrolled in programs such as Aid for Dependent children. People suffering from other disabilities are also eligible. Most of these people are those whose total family income is way below the national average. Some of the states near the sea are prone to frequent cyclones or even disastrous hurricanes and so the people living in these kinds of vulnerable areas are also allowed to apply for free cell phones. Some other families are forced to dislocate due to natural calamities or wars and so on. These destitute and homeless families are offered the free cell phones under the government program.

They can use the phone to search for employment or to fix appointments. The senior citizens can keep in touch with their family. Women who are abused can use it to call help lines provided by the service provider to call for help. You are also allowed to renew the program after every year and even if you dont need the program you can still keep the phone.

Those citizens who want to participate in this program and get free phones can apply either through the telephone or they can fill the application online. They need not travel to any specific place for doing so. However, only one phone is granted per family. All program details are provided in the US Government web site.
