Allays My Concerns - Phone Car Mount Review

By Michael Griffin

Since the grips slide in to hold your phone, it will hold a phone with a skin/case on it with you having to remove the skin/case. The plastic button you push to release the grips feels weak, but it has not yet broken on me yet and I have used it heavily since purchasing last week. It's a pleasure to have in the car. One note about my review: I've only used the windshield mount, never the dashboard nor the vent mount. I have since found that the microphone on the Evo is on the bottom of the phone, and the position of the feet can block the microphone opening. If you slide the feet to a certain position, you can open the microphone and the voice control works much better.

The suction thing works great! I didn't use the sticky plate thing that came with it, the adhesive part didn't really take to my cars dash all that well. I had to cut a small plastic wedge to keep my vent from changing directions but this is minor and not the fault of the Arkon mount at all. I picked this up based up recommendations from other reviewers who said it would work with the Droid X - it absolutely does. I was impressed with the quality of the Windshield mount and was happy to see how snug my phone fit. The adjustable arms were such a great idea.

Occasionally the screwed part on the back does not hold the phone up and it tilts forward. However, it generally works fine. I used it several times without any problems. Easy to use and adjust.

Other than that, great product I use this case with my EVO. I have it clipped to my vent and I have not had a problem with it yet.

The kit also fits my girlfriend's iPhone, so rest assured it's adjustable for a number of shapes. If you're planning to use the vent clip, beware that this is a fairly heavy stand, and that the vent attachment is less universal than the other mount options.

I wanted something that would hold my Droid, which has the hard case around it. This works great. Again in just 3 months' time it has become apparent that, when sunlight heats up the adhesive and it has the weight of my phone on the mount, the adhesive just doesn't hold. The entire mount and mounting pad has come off my dash once and fallen in the floor. It works great for her. I liked it so much I ordered another for me. Not quite sure how to fix that, but it's a huge distraction when the phone pops off after a speed bump/pothole and tumbles to the floor with the charger still attached. However, once you start to expect it, it becomes second nature to push the whole assembly into the vent after moving anything. Overall it's a useful product if you have GPS software on your iPhone, and I'm very happy so far. I received the item on time and I liked the design and its ease of use.
