This Is The Finest Out There - Universal Car Phone Mount Review

By Nicholas Martin

The suction cup works great and leaves no marks on the windshield upon removal. Adjustments are virtually unlimited.

I needed something to keep my phone in front of me when I drive for GPS, and this was perfect. I have only used the dashboard mount which has not come off one time and I've had it attached for about two months. No problems with the charger adapter which goes into the bottom of my Nexus One. The vent mount is the only weakness in the product as the two provided clips, which are adjustable laterally to fit most vents, are not tight enough to hold the mount stationary. The vent clips work great, I just push them into the grille or yank them out without worrying about it falling out. It is less conspicuous than a suction cup mount but does the same job. I have used the product for a month now. Both the windshield and dashboard mount work exactly as they should, securely holding my phone (HTC Incredible) for navigation and multimedia purposes. This product worked perfect for what I was looking for. I wanted something to attach to my air vent, since that is the best place in my car to put my phones GPS, and it not be in the way.

I use the vent attachment with no problems. I highly recommend for anyone with a touchscreen smartphone. I ordered the mount for my HTC Thunderbolt with an extended battery (so it's thicker than normal). I was hoping to use the vent mount, but the vent mount is pretty poorly designed.

The vent mount works with my 06 Accord. I needed a car mount for my Samsung Captivate, and I found this product via the XDA forums. This was fairly obvious out-of-the-box on how to assemble it and mount it to the air vents, which is a plus; simple design is always a good thing. It took me 5 minutes to put it together and mount it. I haven't tried the dashboard mount or the windshield mount yet, but I'm sure they work even better. The air vent clip is a little tricky; I had to get it just right so it wouldn't slip out.

The only complaint that I have about it is that I bought it to use with my iPhone 4 and the back piece of the mount is just plastic and it has the brand name sticking out at the bottom. Easily got around this by stopping by the local hardware store and picking up a pack of those felt tip furniture guard things and placing them on there. Don't turn hard or your phone will end up under the gas pedal. I've had navigation systems and was not pleased with the suction cups. Turned out I'm using both - one in my car, another in my wife's car. Two mounts for the price of one, and both mounts are constructed well, and very usable.

This mount is absolutely what I had in mind when I ordered it. I use it in my vent, and it has not damaged it at all.
