Mobile Phone For Elderly: Essential Features

By Martin Elmer

It is probably known to you that senior mobile phones are the most basic handsets that are there in the market today. Yet, choosing a good phone for old people can be quite a task. Let's see what we mean when we say 'a good senior mobile phone'. Well, it simply means a very easy to use handset with all basic features, organized in an uncomplicated way.

These phones are a must have for old people; first because they can keep in touch with their loved ones without even meeting them and second, at the time of any emergency they can call for help easily.

Let's take a quick look at the highlighting features of such phones. These phones should be reasonably priced. Firstly because they only have very basic features and secondly, senior people are usually retired and do not have any regular income.

Next, such phones should also have easy to use keypad with larger keys. Generally old people do not have very good eye-sight and nimble fingers; therefore such keypads help them dial numbers and type messages comfortably.

After a certain age, weakened eye-sight is almost an unavoidable problem. Thus, larger displays on screen help them see better.

Next on the list is, powerful speakers. For people who have problems in hearing, such phones are equipped with louder speakers compared to normal.

All the modern features that we find in present day mobiles like touch screen, HD videos etc. are of no use to elderly people. So, another very important thing about senior mobile phones is that they should only have basic features and must be extremely user friendly.

One last but the most important point which makes it a perfect package is user friendliness. These phones should not be packed with features. They should be very basic and simple. Once all these points are ticked on your check-list, you know you have made the right pick.
