Pretty Good - Car Mount Cell Phone Holder Critique

By Gabriel Miller

It does a great job securely holding my HTC Evo and my Samsung Epic both in vertical and horizontal positions. I'm always concerned when buying any item that mounts to the windshield. The spring that releases the clamped in phone must be used to remove the phone when done, or else it falls off; the spring mechanism feels cheap to the touch, so I'm guessing that eventually, it will give way and break. Overall, it seems like it works well enough once you've gotten used to how easily it falls off. Well, at least you can always change it and put it on the dash if worse comes to worse. It is designed very well otherwise, even allowing charging on the USB from the side (HTC EVO 3D has side USB, My vehicle has USB port).

This is the one to get. I was concerned that it would obscure the USB port on the Droid X but it works great. The plastic on the mount is a little weak but it does its job. I've had it for over 2 months and it works completely fine with no problems. Great smartphone companion! I purchased two of these for my (and my wife's) Samsung Epic 4g phones.

I have the HTC Evo with and extended battery and Rugged Case. I don't think anything else on the market would fit this set up. The vent mount works with my 06 Accord. I needed a car mount for my Samsung Captivate, and I found this product via the XDA forums.

If you have this, more power to you. If you don't, and you just want to use the phone without adding Bluetooth to your car, it's not going to work for you.

I use this for a nexus s phone in a 2009 Honda fit. I stuck the adhesive disk on the dash and use the suction mount on the disk.

But for use with your navigation app and/or traffic layer, it's great. I picked this mount because I wasn't sure whether I'll be using the dashboard mount, or the vent mount. I'd recommend it to anyone that wants to have their phone used as a GPS in the car (mine is a Droid X, it works perfectly!) I purchased this for the vent mount and it gets the job done. The clips that affix it to the vent could be designed a little better and I am going to try the suggestion of plastic tubing on the end of the clips to give it more grab. I would not use the dashboard mount as I'm concerned about what the adhesive might do. Otherwise, the grips are padded so your phone is safe and secure. You can put this puppy anywhere on the windshield and have excellent access to your phone. I have a great camcorder and this unit allows me to swivel my phone to horizontal position and use my camcorder (or camera) while driving with just the push of a button. It is sold for a great price. It's universal, so if you ever change phones you can continue using it.
