How E-Cigarettes can Help You Save Money

By Gareth Jale

The average pack of cigarettes according to the CDC is about $5.51 and that is not including the sales tax. Some areas like New York have smokers paying about $11 per pack, that's an outrages amount. If a pack-a-day smoker is paying the average price per pack, they will end up spending over $2,000 a year. People paying over the average will end up spending even more. In this economy, who can afford that? Luckily, smokers don't have to deal with these prices. To save money, consumers can make the switch to ecigarettes.

Ecigarettes, or electronic cigarette, is a battery powered device that usually consists of a cartridge, an atomizer, and the battery. The cartridge is the part of the cigarette the holds the nicotine. Unlike traditional cigarettes that contain tobacco, electronic cigarettes have e-juice, which is liquid nicotine. E-cigarette atomizers are the part of the device that vaporize the nicotine. The battery is what provides power to the atomizer. If you have a specific brand electronic cigarette than your cartridge and atomizer may be combined into a cartomizer. Cartomizers are usually sold in packs of five and are often times easier to replace than atomizers. Even though atomizers do not need to be replaced constantly they will burn out after constant use.

While there are several benefits associated with switching to e-cigarettes, one of the greatest is the savings. The biggest expense with these devices is the initial investment. E-cigarette companies offer customers starters kits that range in price from $25 to $100 or more. Most starter kits will contain an electronic cigarette, a charger, and a number of cartridges or Cartomizers. Considering that a carton of cigarettes may cost you around $50 or more, a starter kit really isn't that expensive. Plus, you'll never have to waste money on lighters ever again.

Once you've purchased the starter kit, you'll really start saving. We previously stated that each pack of cigarettes is roughly $6 or more, while the average cost of a cartridge is $1 to $3. These cartridges are usually equivalent to around 15 or 20 cigarettes, but some are equivalent to a little more. There are even some companies that will refill your cartridges.

If a consumer goes through a $2 cartridge each day, they will only be spending $730 each year on e-cigarettes after purchasing a starter kit. Since many electronic cigarettes come with a lifetime guarantee, these kits cost very little to maintain. So while electronic cigarettes may require a small investment, consumers will quickly realize that e-cigarettes are drastically less expensive over the long run.
