Using an Extended battery for a Droid Telephone

By Peter Williams

Smart phones like the HTC Droid Incredible and the Motorola Droid X are wonderful pieces of technology. They permit us to not only phone folks on the go, but also stay completely connected. We will be able to send mails, check out calendar or maybe surf the internet. There's however one major lack with Smart phones, and that's the batteries simply don't last particularly long. This could however be disentangled easily using an extended battery.

What is an Extended Battery?

An Extended battery is a special type of battery which can have more power than the one received with the telephone. These have been available for telephones for quite some time, but as smart phones are so demanding a lot of them already delivered with the highest capacity batteries now available.

Comparing Batteries

If you take the battery out of your smartphone you'll notice 1 or 2 numbers on it. The Volts, and Amps the battery supplies. You should also notice a mAh figure. This stands for Milliamp hours and essentially is related to how much power the battery can store.

The bigger the mAh rating, the longer the battery will last for. So you need to spend a little time selecting a battery that has as high a rating as possible. This will ensure that it will last for much longer.

The way to Choose a Good High Capacity Battery

It's important to know that not all extended batteries are the same. While a lot of them will be the same size as the stock battery, a few will be larger. This would imply the existing back of the phone will not fit on. In this example a new back is normally supplied with the battery and it will add a slight bulge to the back of the smartphone.

If you are unable to live with this then make sure that the extra life battery you select is the same size as the genuine battery for your phone, just with a higher rating.

Fitting the Extended Battery

The high capacity battery should look just about the same as your original battery, although it will most likely be lacking the official manufacturers name as most of these are cloned batteries. Fitting it should be as easy as removing the old battery and replace the new one. If you need a new back then this may also must be implemented.

Charging

Your new high capacity battery can be charged in the same way as ordinary. Simply plug your telephone into charge and the new battery will be charged till it is full. This will routinely take longer than the stock battery which was delivered with the telephone. Nonetheless it should also provide much more power when it is fully charged.

An extended battery can be a very helpful way of making sure that your telephone does not run straight out of juice when you actually need to use it. This can transform a fairly helpful telephone into a really helpful and reliable telephone.
