GPS Accessories For The Discriminating Shopper

By Yahaira Wunder

When you buy that whiz-bang GPS unit, you think you're there; you've arrived - oops, there's the not-so-small task of acquiring GPS accessories. If shopping for these accessories represents uncharted waters for you, then a good way to proceed would be to apply brakes.

One major preventative that will serve you well is doing some good research. You'll decrease the risk of disappointment if you follow some common sense precautions. In this article we'll talk about those accessories that consumers report they're happy with.

We strongly suggest and advise you to buy a nice case to put your GPS in when not in use. These particular GPS accessories come in lots of sizes and shapes but the Lowepro 4.3 Navi Shield GPS Case is one of the most popular carrying cases being sold on Amazon.com. When this is written, you can pick it up for something a bit less than fifteen dollars. For one thing, the Lowepro 4.3 Navi Shield case is hard-shelled in construction. It has padding on the inside so that, even if you drop it, your GPS system will be protected. Like all good cases, there is extra room for some other items like a charging unit and memory cards, plus it's small so it will fit nicely in small storage spaces.

Newegg.com is a great site with lots of stuff to sell; just one of interest to this discussion is the Garmin 010-10231-01 Carrying Case (Deluxe). This case has an interesting design twist because it looks just like the kind of duffle bag that you get from the military. As we write this the retail price is a tad under $30 which seems reasonable.

You won't have any complaints about the space inside because you can easily store your unit, mounting gear, and appropriate cables. It's rugged and an interesting little design for GPS purposes. The last thing you want when you are on the road is to have to fumble for a power cord or a spare mounting device.

However even the more expensive and quality accessories are reasonably priced. You'll come out ahead if you take your time and do the right kind of research.
