Evo vs. IPhone 4

By Gareth Jale

Apple continues to face competition from worthy opponents to its best-in-class iPhone 4 smartphone. One of the strong competitors is the HTC Evo 4G phone which boasts a larger touch screen, comparable camera and video capabilities, and multitasking features that put the iPhone to the test. This article will explain some of the features in more detail.

We're going to take our first look at the HTC Evo 4G, probably the best Android phone out right now, versus the brand-new iPhone 4. The first difference any customer will notice is the screen size difference. Although the Evo has a bigger screen than that of the iPhone 4, the iPhone's screen has better screen resolution. The Evo's screen size does allow for multiple widgets to fit within the same screen which makes it quite convenient to go between different applications. Alternatively, the iPhone 4 features multiple folders that utilize screen space to a much higher degree than previous versions.

The iPhone is the perfect size allowing it to fit into any size purse or pocket. The HTC Evo is a little bit wider and has a slightly thinner frame than the iPhone 4, but the difference is hardly noticeable. The Evo does feature a few extra ports including an HDMI port that the iPhone 4 does not boast. With accessories such as a case and a battery this is something to keep in mind.

One main point of emphasis is how the two cameras stack up. The Evo smart phone sports an eight megapixel camera but the stills and video have been found to be noticeably inferior to that of the iPhone 4. Even though both cameras should suffice for many users, Apple managed to outdo themselves this time, with an array of more vivid and bright colors it leave the Evo behind, but not too far behind. Both phones have very sensitive cameras that adjust depending on the natural outdoor color. When tested, some of the Evo stills had an unnatural quality about them, especially on indoor shots where poor lighting was available. While the quality of the Evo camera is elite with regard to most smart phones, when stacking up with the iPhone the video in particular is of a slightly lower quality.

Evo tasks continually run in the background whether or not there are multiple applications open at the same time. This is great especially because multitasking plays a huge role in today's society. Many users will be quite pleased with the multitasking quality of the Evo. There was no noticeable drop-off of processor speed when dealing with multiple applications that were open at the same time, even if the applications took up significant memory. Like with all smart phones, users will find that battery life is never enough because of all the great features. The iPhone is certainly limited in its multitasking capabilities out of the box, so the Evo trumps the iPhone in this category.
